Healthy Option Dog Food

Your dog's health is affected by the food you give him or her, and a poor quality diet can lead to many problems, diseases and complaints such as:

Many commercially-produced dog foods are based on cereals that contain wheat-gluten. Dogs fed on cereal-based foods have a greater tendency to suffer from gastric problems such as colitis because the majority of the food is indigestible.

Many also contain 'animal derivatives' which are by-products such as beaks, feathers, guts, bones and feet, and are hard on the digestive system. They can also contain 'undeclared' oil and fats, which are sometimes reclaimed from crisp manufacturers and result in poor skin and coat condition, such as dandruff.

Nutrients from synthetics are of very little value to the dog and lead to health problems, such as poor pigmentation and moulting.

The use of chemicals to preserve the diet is common practice, as is the use of colourants and flavourings such as caramel, which has a high sugar content.

NB: If you are at all concerned about the health of your dog, you are strongly advised to consult a qualified vet in order to eliminate any underlying medical condition.

What makes 'Healthy Option' so special?

Healthy Option dog food is a more natural food and contains the finest ingredients to provide maximum nutrition and ensure optimum health for your dog.

Protein:

All the recipes use only the best chicken, lamb or salmon. They do not contain by-products such as beak, feather and feet so are easy for your dog to digest.

Carbohydrate:

Rice is used to supply your dog with the majority of carbohydrate.

Fibre:

A relatively small amount of maize ensures a low fibre diet.

Nutrients:

The recipes use seaweed, an organic source of nutrients, and probably the best supplement available.

Oil and Fats:

The recipes use chicken oil, rich in linoleic acid, and sunflower oil for essential fatty acids. This gives your dog lovely healthy skin and a shiny coat.

Preservatives:

The recipes use a natural source of vitamin E (alpha tocopherols) as part of the natural preservatives, which work in unison with vitamin A and vitamin C. Vitamin A, naturally supplied in beta-carotene, promotes general health. Vitamin C will encourage a healthy immune system. The recipes do not contain artificial colourants or flavourings.

Because 'Healthy Option' dog food contains everything your dog needs for a complete healthy diet, there is very little waste. This means the daily feeding requirement is often much less than other commercially-available dog foods.

Example:

Based on the feeding guide above, a 15 kg dog (cocker spaniel or equivalent) would require a daily amount of 163g. A 15kg bag of dog food costing £32 would last 92.02 days (13 weeks), at a cost of 35p a day, or £2.45 per week.

Use the feeding guide above to calculate your own dog's requirements, and discover that, contrary to popular belief, feeding your dog a healthy diet is not expensive.
